Getting Compensation for a Holiday Accident

It can often be very difficult to get compensation after an accident abroad, because other countries will have different rules surrounding liability and the public's rights. These rights may even be diminished, for tourists. This of course is a very difficult thing to have to go through, especially if there are few support networks in the country. The stress may even contribute to and make worse the illness or pain that has already been caused.

It is lucky, then, that a recent EU Directive has stated that any accidents that occur within the European Union can be dealt with by a British lawyer, or a lawyer from whichever country it is that the claimant is a citizen of. This will obviously come as a relief to holidaymakers, as the legal systems in some countries, particularly in Eastern Europe, may not be as well organised or helpful as those in Britain. It is of course much more reassuring to deal with lawyers in your own language, rather than having to use a translator.

There is another benefit to this ruling, which is that compensation offered as a result of an accident abroad is often much larger in Britain than it is in other parts of the world. Developing countries have less money to invest into such things. Even in countries such as Australia, which are generally considered to have about the same level of consumer rights as Britain, victims of accidents can be awarded up to thirty percent less on average.

About the Author

Britain has the highest compensation rate for payouts in the world.

It is therefore beneficial for British holidaymakers to be able to take advantage of this if they fall into trouble. This ruling will, and already has, taken a large amount of stress out of going on holiday, particularly for those who may be travelling to more remote, and less developed parts of the world, wishing to file official holiday complaints upon their return.
