It is clear, even today, that social media will play a big role in the way people interact, share, and think in the future. How big this impact will be, no one knows for sure. But any company that intends to stay in business over the long term should jump into this bandwagon now. There are several websites including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube that dominate the industry. This list may yet expand in the near future.

Get started on these sites and develop a loyal following. Once the trend started, it will now be simpler to start onto the next one. Your ecommerce business only stands to benefit from it:

1. Open a Facebook and Twitter Account

No social media marketing initiative is complete without a Facebook and Twitter account. Web expert nowadays have their own pages and might stay connected with you by opening their account. Another notable site you should look into is LinkedIn; this is mostly used by professionals so your business will look more credible if it has a lot of connections.

2. Be Brave in Your Exploration

This advice can apply in many different situations. In this case though, we'll limit it to your choice of button placement. Generally, ecommerce websites place share buttons/widgets to a familiar section throughout the website. For example, if it is found on the upper-right side on the landing page, you can be sure that it is in the same location on every page.

There's certainly nothing wrong with that but you can actually go further. For instance, you can include the share button on a sales confirmation email, email template, and even on the order page. It is also greatly suggested to place it in your blog page.

3. Gather Data

Here, gathering data means knowing where web visitors are sharing your content/product/service. Integrating tools such as ShareThis and AddThis gives you an overview of the sharing behaviour of the audience. Likewise, free tools like Google Analytics also reveal a lot of information about your site and visitors.

4. Upload Photos

It's impossible to visit any blog about social networking without encountering advice about uploading videos. This is because it works. The importance of videos cannot be stressed enough because many people prefer to see things in action than read through a long sales letter. While on this subject, also take note that adding videos on YouTube and other popular sharing sites can improve sales and boost revenue.
